In a promising start to 2024, the provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, and Manitoba have initiated the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws, inviting candidates to contribute to their local labor forces and economies. The PNP serves as a vital pathway for economic immigration candidates to establish themselves within a specific province, often leading to higher retention rates.

PNP Overview

The Provincial Nominee Program enables provincial governments to assess and select economic immigration candidates who align with the local labor force and economic needs. This targeted approach facilitates the economic integration of newcomers into the province, ensuring a mutually beneficial outcome for both the candidates and the local community.

Expanding Eligibility Criteria

Each province's PNP comprises various streams designed to attract candidates with specific occupations or attributes. Ontario, for instance, recently broadened the eligibility criteria under the International Graduate stream, now including applicants who complete a one-year program at a designated learning institution within the province.

Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026

Canada's Immigration Levels Plan for 2024 outlines the country's commitment to admit 110,000 new permanent residents through the PNP. This collaborative effort between federal and provincial governments underscores the shared responsibility of managing immigration, with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allocating nominations to provinces based on factors such as population, infrastructure, labor force needs, and available settlement services.

Provincial Immigration Results January 1-12

Ontario

Ontario conducted two Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program draws during the first week of January. The draws targeted candidates in the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream, specifically in healthcare, tech occupations, and skilled trades. The draws saw a total of 821 and 630 candidates invited, respectively.

Another draw on January 11 invited 2,552 candidates from the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream, with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores ranging between 350-424.

British Columbia

On January 10, British Columbia invited over 372 candidates across three streams of the BC PNP. A general draw invited 110 candidates from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, and Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled Worker streams. The remaining four draws targeted candidates in specific occupations, including construction, childcare, healthcare, and veterinary care.

Manitoba

Manitoba conducted four separate MPNP draws on January 11, inviting a total of 431 candidates. The draws included Skilled Workers in Manitoba, candidates with close relatives in Manitoba, candidates from the International Education Stream, and Skilled Workers Overseas. Scores varied based on the stream, ranging from 607 to 639.

Looking Ahead

As the PNP draws kick off the immigration activities for 2024, it sets a positive tone for the year ahead. The provinces' strategic selection of candidates aligns with their specific needs, contributing to the economic growth and diversity of each region. Prospective immigrants are encouraged to explore these opportunities as Canada continues to welcome skilled individuals from around the world.
