Canada Conducts First Express Entry Draw for Healthcare Professionals in 2025

In a significant development for healthcare workers around the world, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has held its first Express Entry draw of 2025 dedicated specifically to healthcare and social services professionals.

The draw, conducted on May 2, saw 500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued to candidates in the healthcare and social services category, with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement of 510. To qualify, candidates were required to have created their Express Entry profile before 4:31 a.m. UTC on July 21, 2024.

This latest draw marks the first healthcare-focused selection since the IRCC expanded the category to include several new social services occupations in February 2025, offering more opportunities to professionals in both clinical and support roles. Notably, this draw also had the highest CRS cut-off score for a healthcare category-based selection to date, reflecting growing competition and high demand for Canadian permanent residency among skilled healthcare workers.

A Busy Week for Express Entry

This healthcare draw is the third Express Entry selection this week alone, following the first-ever education category-based draw on May 1 (1,000 ITAs issued) and a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on April 28.

To date in 2025, IRCC has issued a total of 33,429 ITAs across various categories, underscoring the Canadian government's ongoing commitment to targeted immigration that addresses specific labor market needs.
