IRCC Continues Express Entry Momentum, Invites 2,000 French-Speaking Candidates

Canada's immigration department, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), has conducted its third Express Entry draw this week, inviting 2,000 candidates with French language proficiency to apply for permanent residence.  This category-based selection draw required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 394.


A Busy Week and Month for Express Entry

This latest draw follows a series of active invitation rounds for Canada's flagship immigration program.  Earlier this week, a program-specific draw targeted 3,200 Canadian Experience Class candidates, while another invited 763 Provincial Nominee Program candidates with a higher CRS score of 690.  July saw an unprecedented nine Express Entry draws, issuing over 25,000 invitations to apply (ITAs), the highest number for any month since the system's inception in 2015.


Focus on In-Canada Candidates and Specific Skills

Four of July's draws were category-based, with two specifically targeting French-speaking candidates. The remaining two focused on healthcare and trade occupations.  Additionally, two program-specific draws targeted the Canadian Experience Class, indicating IRCC's commitment to transitioning more temporary residents already in Canada to permanent status.


Shifting Immigration Landscape

This increased activity and focus on specific categories reflect IRCC's evolving strategy to manage Canada's immigration goals.  The department is working to reduce the number of temporary residents while still meeting its permanent resident admissions targets. This includes a greater emphasis on in-Canada applicants and those with skills in high-demand sectors.
