Pearson Launches PTE Core for Canadian Economic (work & PR) Migration Visas.

London, January 30, 2024 - Pearson, the world's leading learning company, announced today that bookings are now open for PTE Core, its latest English language proficiency test. Approved by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), PTE Core is designed for individuals seeking permanent economic immigration to Canada or Canadian citizenship. The test, focusing on vocational skills, will be available for the first time from February 12 onwards.
PTE Core, an addition to Pearson's Test of English portfolio, shares characteristics with PTE Academic but with a real-life, non-academic focus. The two-hour computer-based exam assesses speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. It addresses Canada's specific migration needs and IRCC's language proficiency requirements but is adaptable for vocational test-takers worldwide.
Gio Giovannelli, President of the English Language Learning division at Pearson, expressed excitement about the rollout of PTE Core, emphasizing its real-life language skill assessment. He stated, "Whether people are looking to work, study, or migrate to Canada, there’s a Pearson English language proficiency test that suits their requirements."
IRCC's increased focus on economic resurgence aligns with the approval of PTE Core, providing new opportunities for professionals in high-demand fields like nursing, engineering, and web development.
PTE Core was developed in response to Canadian economic migration needs. In addition to PTE Core, PTE Academic was accepted by IRCC in August 2023 for Student Direct Stream (SDS) visa applications, already recognized by the majority of Canadian universities and colleges. PTE Academic is widely accepted by governments in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand for visa applications.
The fully digital PTE Core test, delivered through Pearson VUE, incorporates the latest AI technology for scoring, ensuring a secure and accurate English language proficiency assessment. Test-takers can book PTE Core online up to 24 hours in advance, access year-round worldwide test centre slots, and receive results within an average of two days.
PTE Core will be available across Pearson's extensive network of over 400 PTE centres in 118 countries, including 25 test centres in Canada.
