Victoria, Australia, has officially opened its Skilled Migration Program for the 2023-24 season, inviting applications from both residents of Victoria and overseas skilled migrants. This program serves as a vital pathway for skilled individuals to secure permanent residency in the state. To be considered for state nomination, applicants must begin the process by submitting a Registration of Interest (ROI).
Missed Out on the Previous Year?
For those who were not selected in the 2022-23 program, some changes have been introduced to the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) requirements for the 2023-24 season. To qualify for nomination in this category, onshore applicants must be residing and actively working in regional Victoria at the time of nomination. It's important to note that certain outer suburbs of Melbourne fall within the regional zones designated by the Department of Home Affairs.
As a result of this significant change, individuals who submitted a subclass 491 ROI in the previous season (2022-23) and were not selected will need to re-submit a new ROI if they still meet the updated eligibility criteria.
Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
In contrast, there are no alterations to the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) nomination program. If you previously submitted a Registration of Interest for subclass 190 in the 2022-23 season and were not selected, you are not required to submit a new ROI unless there have been changes to the information you provided.
Additionally, applicants are advised to thoroughly review their partner points and annual salary responses in their existing ROI and ensure that the details are accurate. If any discrepancies are identified, it is recommended to withdraw the existing ROI and resubmit a corrected version.
Selection Rounds
It's crucial to understand that a Registration of Interest is not a formal application for Victorian visa nomination. The selection process is highly competitive, and there is no predefined timeframe for when an applicant may be chosen. ROIs will remain in the system for selection until they are either voluntarily withdrawn or selected. The program's closure is scheduled for early 2024, although the exact date will be confirmed at a later time.
