Alberta Holds Second-Largest Immigration Draw of the Year, Inviting Over 1,100 Candidates

Alberta has made one of its biggest immigration moves of 2025, issuing 1,125 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a pair of draws held between November 10 and 14—marking the province’s second-largest selection round of the year.

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) selected candidates based on their ties to the province, strong rankings under the AAIP scoring grid, and—importantly—their experience in priority healthcare occupations.

The November 10 draw alone brought in 1,045 candidates, making it Alberta’s largest draw since September 12, when 1,113 candidates were invited.

Strong Demand for the Alberta Opportunity Stream

The Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) remains the backbone of the AAIP, designed for temporary foreign workers already employed full-time in the province. Applicants must meet strict criteria, including:

• A full-time job offer from an eligible Alberta employer

• A valid work permit

• Minimum requirements for language, education, occupation eligibility, and Alberta work experience

AOS also carries the largest nomination allocation of any AAIP stream—3,656 spots in 2025.

So far, Alberta has issued 3,120 nominations through this stream, leaving 536 spots remaining. However, there are 1,100 applications still awaiting processing, indicating that competition will likely intensify as the year closes.

Priority Healthcare Workers Receive New Opportunities

On November 14, Alberta issued 80 ITAs through its Express Entry Stream – Priority Sectors draw, targeting healthcare professionals. This is the second healthcare-focused draw held under this pathway in 2025.

To date, 494 nominations have been issued under priority sector draws, out of an annual cap of 660 spots.

Because this pathway is aligned with Express Entry, candidates who receive a provincial nomination earn an additional 600 CRS points—virtually guaranteeing an invitation for permanent residency.

Alberta Express Entry: Expanding Across Multiple High-Demand Sectors

The AAIP’s Express Entry Stream continues to prioritize workers in key sectors that fuel Alberta’s economic growth. These include:

• Healthcare

• Construction

• Aviation

• Agriculture

The province also runs focused pathways for technology, law enforcement, and specialized healthcare roles—strategically attracting talent with the most immediate provincial impact.

Alberta’s Nomination Allocation Gets a Boost for 2025

In a significant development, the federal government has increased Alberta’s 2025 nomination allocation from 4,875 to 6,603 spots—an addition of 1,728 positions.

This restores about 67% of the province’s 2024 allocation (before last year’s major cuts), giving Alberta more room to invite skilled workers and meet labour market needs.

However, the province has confirmed these extra spots won’t carry over into 2026, meaning Alberta is expected to conduct more draws in the coming months to fully utilize the expanded quota.
