Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482): summary

The Skills in Demand visa replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage visa on 7 December 2024. An approved sponsor nominates a skilled worker under the Specialist Skills, Core Skills or Labour Agreement stream for up to 4 years. Salary decides the stream: AUD 146,576+ for Specialist Skills and AUD 79,423+ for Core Skills from 1 July 2026.

The process in brief: Employer becomes a standard business sponsor → Test the local labour market → Employer lodges the nomination → Worker lodges the visa application → Health and character checks → Decision and start work.
