Standard Visitor visa (business) and ETA: summary
Business visitors can come to the UK for up to 6 months for permitted activities such as meetings, negotiations and conferences. Depending on nationality, you need either a Standard Visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). You cannot work for a UK company or be paid by a UK client, except for permitted paid engagements.
The process in brief: Check the activity is permitted → Check whether you need a visa or ETA → Apply for an ETA (non-visa nationals) → Apply for a visa (visa nationals) → Travel and show evidence at the border.
